It is now time for the Duck’s second Listmas list. This one is kind of like my gaming Christmas list, listing all the gaming-related things I would like to see someday, whether they be things that can actually happen someday or are merely silly and impractical. Merry Listmas: Games I Hope to Complete in 2014
When 2013 started, I had a singular gaming goal in mind: complete Skyrim. (Which I did!) Now that I’m facing the start of 2014, I have the same gaming goal in mind, except it involves multiple games. In the past, new years have tended to bring forth crops of new games, and I’ve generally tried to finish any games from the past year by the end of it. Well, that just didn’t happen this year. In fact, I’ve got such a large number of started-but-not-finished titles in queue right now that I’m swearing to myself (and all of you) that, depending on the system, I’m not going to buy new games until the ones that I started from my backlog are totally and fully complete. Or…their main stories, at the very least. So here’s a list what I’ll definitely be playing next year (ordered by system):

Merry Listmas: Things I Dislike About Games I Like
Hello, everyone, and welcome to the duck’s first Listmas list. I enjoy lists, whether it’s keeping track of all my games (in order from best to worst, of course) and realizing that my collection might be getting a wee bit enormous or marking things off a list and knowing that I’m getting one step closer to a goal. And so when I found out there was an actual little holiday where I got to list stuff, I then got to thinking about what I wanted to list (as was the logical next step in that sequence of events). And I eventually came up with the idea to list the things I don’t like about games I like. Here I go. Continue reading Merry Listmas: Things I Dislike About Games I Like
The Duck’s Top Five: Items from the Legend of Zelda Series
Now it’s the Duck’s turn to list my top five items from “The Legend of Zelda” series (in order from least favorite to top favorite). I grew up with this series, and it is still one of my favorite series of all time, with the puzzles to solve and the dungeons to explore, not to mention the variety of items you can use, from the ordinary, like the Bow and the Slingshot, to the unique, like the Hookshot and the Lens of Truth, to the bizarre, like the Spinner and the Gust Bellows. When I thought over my top five items for this post (items from “A Link to the Past”, “Ocarina of Time”, “Majora’s Mask”, “Wind Waker”, “Twilight Princess”, and “Skyward Sword” were considered), several sprung immediately to mind, but a few took a bit more thinking before I could narrow it down to which items I liked the most. But, I finally succeeded (earning myself a Heart Container for my hard work). Behold, the Duck’s…list! Continue reading The Duck’s Top Five: Items from the Legend of Zelda Series
Resonance: Giant Monster in Wait
Video from Youtube user: gmaster2647
The Duck was listening to some music from a most beautiful game, “Okami”, and when I heard this one song, I immediately knew it needed its own Resonance post. This song, called “Giant Monster in Wait”, had quite an impact on me when I first played the game, and it remains as one of my favorite songs from the game because it is the most successful in terms of making me feel like a part of the game. This is why I love such songs, because they draw you into the game and make you feel like what’s happening is really…happening. We all know video games aren’t real, so any fear, excitement, uneasiness, whatever is dampened by the fact that, no matter how immersive the game is, we can never forget that it is just that, a game. Resonance: In the Darkness

Hatm0nster was kind enough to let me use his “Resonance” idea, where, if you haven’t yet read these delightful posts, he discusses a particular song from a video game that stands out to him. I have the same love for video game music, as the right music can bring you into the game and make you feel so much more that you’re a part of the experience. One such song that comes to mind is “In the Darkness” a song from “Super Paper Mario”. This particular song is not my favorite song from the game, but it certainly stands out to me above all others. First, a little background. Continue reading Resonance: In the Darkness
