Three Unique and Upcoming Switch Titles

With the release of Nintendo’s Switch now less than a month away, I’ve been spending an increasing amount of time looking up what kind of games we’ll have to look forward to.  As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t plan on buying the Switch at launch, but a Duck can still dream, right?  And for all of those out there who will be proud Switch-owners in the near future, here’s a little assistance in the form of three intriguing, but lesser-known, Switch releases.  That means no Zelda, Mario, or Yooka-Laylee! Saturday Video Round Up: February 12 – 18

Saturday is back once again and along with it comes a brand new edition of the Video Round Up. It’s back to bring you the best trailers and videos from the past week, so without further delay, let’s get into it, shall we?

It was a big week for Injustice 2 as the upcoming DC Comics fighting game introduced a bunch of fighters to its expansive roster of heroes and villains. Swamp Thing made his debut, followed by another trailer showing off four femme fatales with Black Canary, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and Cheetah.

After much success with their Wii U season pass experiment for first party games like Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, and Hyrule Warriors, Nintendo has revealed that they’re doing another season pass for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While many of you may be worrying that Zelda has always been a complete experience on day one, it appears that Nintendo is not planning on cutting out content and reselling it. Based on the limited information, the post-launch content appears to be additional, and optional content.

I’ve also got new videos for Nier: Automata, Sea of Theaves, Horizon Zero Dawn and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…

Super Mario Odyssey Trailer: Initial Thoughts

Last week, I discussed my thoughts and concerns on the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  Today, it’s Mario’s turn for some scrutiny, as we were just recently introduced to the next major Mario game, Super Mario Odyssey.  Let me start by saying that I’m not the biggest Mario fan out there.  The games are great and all, but they’re not exactly at the top of my list.  Nevertheless, I think the new Mario trailer may have possibly excited me even more than the Zelda one.

Considering I am a massive Zelda fan, I had to ask myself why this was, and it didn’t take me long to come up with an answer.  While Breath of the Wild signifies a major departure from the Zelda series, Odyssey marks a return to the Mario games I loved most.  Super Mario 64 and Sunshine gave us large, open worlds to explore, while Galaxy was linear and New Super Mario Bros. were traditional sidescrollers.  In short, I have been waiting for a Mario game like this for over a decade, and I couldn’t be happier! Saturday Video Round Up: January 29 – February 4

Welcome back to another brand new edition of the Saturday Video Round Up! For those of you new here, this is the weekly series bringing you the best trailers and gameplay videos from around the gaming industry. Here’s a small taste of what’s waiting for you below the jump.

Ubisoft has been on a roll lately with betas. Last weekend saw another For Honor closed test and this week has Ghost Recon Wildlands in the spotlight for another non-NDA closed beta test. For those of you wanting to see more from the game, Ubisoft released a new 4 player co-op gameplay trailer, showing off what sort of chaos players can find in this massive world.

Since we’re now in February, Sony is preparing to launch their first major exclusive title,  Horizon: Zero Dawn, at the end of the month. While a lot has already been said, a new behind the scenes video is out in the wild, giving fans another taste of the new world Guerrilla Games has created.

I’ve also got new videos for Titanfall 2, For Honor, Resident Evil VII biohazard and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…

New Breath of the Wild Trailer: Initial Thoughts

With the recent announcement of the Switch’s release date came more news for two exciting entries into Nintendo’s vast library of games.  Not only were we graced with more footage of Breath of the Wild, but we also got to watch open-mouthed as that new Mario game finally got a name, Odyssey.  Super Mario Odyssey, that is.  I’m not usually the type to record an in-depth analysis of my reaction to a game trailer, but I guess the Switch’s hype coupled with Nintendo’s lack of interesting games over the last few years has made these games all the more exciting to me.  Today I’d like to begin the discussion with Breath of the Wild.  Odyssey will follow next week.  So, without further ado… Continue reading New Breath of the Wild Trailer: Initial Thoughts

REVII: From Trailer to Launch

It’s official: Resident Evil is scary again! Even if it is borrowing a bit from the likes of Amnesia and Outlast, but there’s no denying that Resident Evil is finally delivering the scares its fans have been wanting for so many years. This shouldn’t really be coming as a shock since so much of the game’s pre-release media showed us what looked like a genuinely terrifying experience. It shouldn’t be a surprise, but with so many trailers and previews proving themselves unreliable at best we can hardly be blamed for our skepticism. Yet, here we are. Resident Evil VII is an excellent game that actually delivers the genuinely chilling experience were promised in the very first trailer. How closely does it hit the promised mark? More so than you might think. Continue reading REVII: From Trailer to Launch
