Wandering the Endless Expanse

I finally did it. After all kinds of recommendations from friends and seeing that it was getting all manner of praise, I finally picked up and started playing Final Fantasy XV. I hadn’t really been paying a lot of attention to the media surrounding it, so I really didn’t know much about what type of game it was. So, imagine my surprise when I was almost immediately dropped into a vast open world to explore from the word “go”. There was a time when this would have been a pleasant surprise indeed, but not anymore. Instead, this discovery left me feeling resigned, with just a single thought in reaction: “Oh, its another one of these games.” I suppose I’ll just come out and say it: I’m getting tired of all these open-world games. Uncharted, We Meet Again

Sometimes, it feels as if certain games come to exist in my house thanks to pure fate.  Most of my games I seek out myself, but Uncharted is one series I never once put my mind to acquiring, and yet, here I stand the owner of not one, but two, entries from the series.  The main reason why Uncharted never really appealed to me was because I’ve never been a fan of games that are too…realistic, I guess?  There’s just something about games that feature realistic-looking humans or even just good, ol’ planet Earth that don’t appeal to me.  (I mean, the Sly Cooper series seems to take place on Earth, but it’s populated by anthropomorphic animals, which is okay in my book.)

When I bought my PS3, it was accompanied by Uncharted 3.  I decided to play the game, since I had it in my possession, after all, and while it was pretty cool, I quickly forgot about it shortly after completion.  For a short while, I considered checking out the first two games, and then that just never happened.  And yet, that was certainly not the last I would see of the series, even if I didn’t know it at the time.  It was with the recent purchase of my PS4 that another Uncharted game snuck its way into my gaming shelf once more, the fourth (and final?) entry in the series.

Fancy seeing you here, Nathan Drake.  Long time no see. Continue reading Uncharted, We Meet Again

Saturday Video Round Up: September 18 – 24

Saturday has once again rolled around so that means it’s time for another edition of the Saturday Video Round Up. As usual, we’re bringing you the latest trailers from the week that was. Let’s see what when down in the gaming industry this week, shall we?

Xbox has a bunch of launch trailers for your viewing enjoyment. The first is the gorgeous looking racer Forza Horizon 3, which looks to just want to provide a fun experience to players rather than be a true simulation racer.

Even though it’s not out for a few more weeks, the hype meter continues to rise for Gears of War 4. All aboard the hype train as the impressive launch trailer is now available for your eyes.

Ubisoft waited till the end of the week, but they released a new trailer for Watch_Dogs 2 focusing entirely on the story. We finally get to see the villain of the game, motivations for the characters, and a surprise reveal from a big character form the first game. No, not Mr. Trench Coat, Aiden Pearce, but another friendly face.

I’ve also got new videos for Dishonored 2, Destiny: Rise of Iron, Titanfall 2 and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…

Saturday Video Round Up: August 28 – September 3

Welcome to the weekend everyone! We’re into September now and that means the fall rush of games is about to kick off. As such, it’s another busy week for videos and trailers, so let’s get going on the round up, shall we?

I can’t decide if Titanfall 2 or Gears of War 4 had bigger news, so I’ll mention them both quickly. Fresh off of their second and final technical test, Respawn dropped in a brand new trailer showcasing all six Titan classes players will be able to select once the full game launches at the end of October.

The big news from Microsoft was for Gears of War 4, finally revealing the popular Horde mode. While the fundamentals are the same with 50 waves of increasingly difficult enemies, The Coalition have added a few new twists including classes and character loadouts.

Nintendo held a new Direct conference this past week and while WiiU owners were left out in the cold, 3DS owners got a ton of new reveals including a new DLC pack for Hyrule Warriors Legends, and other games like Mario Party: Star Rush and Picross 3D: Round 2.

I’ve also got new videos for Watch_Dogs 2, Fora Horizon 3, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…

Saturday Video Round Up: May 15 – 21

The following post was submitted by Derek from Gamer Crash. See more trailers and news at GamerCrash.com!

As we inch closer and closer to E3 next month, expect the video pool to dry up as publishers save their biggest and brightest trailers for when all eyes are on the annual show. Still, there’s plenty of stuff to check out this week in the Round Up. Here’s just a small taste of what awaits you.

Did you know that The Witcher 3 is finally getting it’s last major expansion at the end of the month? You should with how many Blood & Wine videos they’ve released in the past couple of weeks. Not that I’m complaining or anything, the new content looks fantastic and a nice change of pace from the main game. If you want to know more about the land of Toussaint, there’s a video waiting for you below.

The cinematics team at Blizzard have done it again, releasing another incredible looking short called Dragons. Focusing on the brotherly feud between Genji and Hanzo, you’ll get a better understanding of where each character is coming from as well as see some crazy good CG animation. Seriously, it’s like Pixar level good.

I’ve also got new videos for Fallout 4 DLC, Tom Clancy’s The Division, Gran Turismo Sport and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…

Saturday Video Round Up: April 17 – 23

The following post was submitted by Derek from Gamer Crash. See more trailers and news at GamerCrash.com!

Time certainly flies, doesn’t it? The week is over and it’s time for a new edition of the Video Round Up. With PAX East currently raging in Boston, companies have not been shy about showing off what they have coming this year, so there’s a lot of video content to get to. Lets dive in!

Insomniac Games has been quite busy these days after just releasing the newest Ratchet & Clank game for the PlayStation 4 earlier this month. This week, the studio revealed three new trailers for three games they have in development. The Unspoken and Feral Rites are VR specific games, but for everyone else, there’s a brand new story trailer for their gorgeous Metroidvania style game, Song of the Deep.

One of my personal favorite studios, Supergiant Games, finally revealed their next title called Pyre and as expected, the game excels in both the audio and visual side. It’s already firmly on my radar even with an expected 2017 launch, and I can’t wait to see how it plays.

I’ve also got new videos for Star Fox Zero, LawBreakers, Mafia III and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…

Saturday Video Round Up: March 27 – April 2

The following post was submitted by Derek from Gamer Crash. See more trailers and news at GamerCrash.com!

The Round Up has returned and is ready to deliver the best video based trailers and content from the past week. Make sure to kick those feet up, crank the volume, and enjoy the offering this week. Looking for April Fools content? I’ve included one below but be on the look out for a new Round Up coming next week. No, this isn’t an April Fools joke, it’s April 2nd. Here’s a quick look at only a small portion of what awaits you below.

With just over a month left before release, EA is slowly (and I mean SLOWLY) pulling the curtains back on Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. This week, they released a new developer diary showcasing the City of Glass and the narrative elements intertwined within it. Either way it’s a win because it gives you an updated look at the game.

For you Final Fantasy fans, it was a great week as Square Enix dropped a ton of new information and a barrage of new trailers. I’ve done the best I could to gather them all up and sprinkle them throughout this round up for your enjoyment.

I’ve also got new videos for DOOM, Battleborn, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…
