Phoenix Wright: Ace Update!

For reasons that still aren’t entirely clear to me, I was recently compelled to start Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. And what a strange ride is has been! Since my first post on the game, I’ve completed two more cases: Turnabout Samurai and Turnabout Goodbyes. If the first two cases were, for me, an introduction to the games mechanics and style, then the second two cases proved just how tricky (and weird) a defense lawyering is! Well…in the Phoenix Wright universe, anyway. (Maybe in the real world too?)

Playing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is largely like watching a mystery novel unfold. Each case presents you with a cast of characters and a grouping of evidence that you must then follow and use, respectively, to prove your client’s innocence. (I learned quite abruptly that getting a “guilty” verdict is akin to losing a life. The game makes you start over and try again.)

Physical Games Becoming Obsolete?

It seems that the digital market’s impact on physical game sales has increased dramatically over the past year. According to information gathered in an article published on TheStreet, many sellers of physical games saw a major drop in sales going into this quarter. This drop is apparently steep enough that, according to TheStreet, at least one analyst is now saying that “it’s the beginning of the end for packaged video games”. Getting to Know Breath of the Wild

Breath of the Wild is here!  It’s finally here, the super different, super massive Zelda game we have all been waiting for!  I reserved the game (the Wii U version) at my local game store the day it was released, as I worried the insane hype over not only the game itself, but the Switch, would make obtaining a copy rather difficult.  I can’t say whether or not such measures were absolutely necessary, but boy, was I not taking any chances.  (I do know that by the time I arrived at the store, there was a sign on the door saying they had sold out of Switch consoles.)  I started playing the game that evening, and it’s pretty much all I did over the weekend.

While I plan to write more about my experiences with this game as my time with it grows, right now, I just want to focus on my early impressions, so if you’re worried about spoilers, this post should be pretty safe, on the most part.  I can’t promise the same for later posts.  But we’ll see. Fan Or Not?

If there’s one concept that’s affected gaming more than any other, it would have to be fandom. Video games live and die by their fans, as do their publishers and developers. It’s why new IP are considered risky while resources are poured hand over fist into sequel after sequel. What is a fan though? Is enjoying a game enough to be considered its fan or is there something more to it? Continue reading Fan Or Not?

Saturday Video Round Up: February 26 – March 4

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the weekend and an all new edition of the Saturday Video Round Up. As usual, I’ve gather up the best video game trailers and gameplay from around the industry this past week and put them all in a handy dandy post for your viewing pleasure. Let’s get to it, shall we?

After a leak last week, WB and Monolith officially confirmed that Middle-earth: Shadow of War is indeed real. Picking up where the first game left off, players jump back into the armor of fallen ranger Talion and his spirit elf Celebrimbor as they create a new ring of power and prepare to go toe to toe with Sauron. With a newly updated and expanded Nemesis System, I am ready to return to the land of Mordor.

With the Nintendo Switch now out in the wild, there’s also a handful of launch videos for the new console watching for your views as well.

I’ve also got new videos for Nier: Automata, Injustice 2, Mass Effect Andromeda and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…
