Replay Value. It’s the last thing we think about when deciding whether or not we’re interested in a game, but it’s among the first when time comes to actually buy it. Having a reason to come back after the credits roll has always been important; it’s what the old arcade game literally banked on after all. However, in a modern game industry where the choices are too many to count, having more replay value could very well make the difference between a purchase and a pass. What is that makes a game re-playable though? One would think that a modern game would need a wealth of content in order to stay on the shelf, but I don’t that’s quite it. Content certainly helps, but it can’t do anything if the game doesn’t do something to win its players over first. Continue reading Does it Have Replay Value?

Welcome to the weekend everyone! Saturday has returned once again and so to has a brand new entry in the Video Round Up series. As usual, we’ve got a lot of new videos to get to so here’s a small taste of what’s waiting for you below the jump.
I don’t think anyone will be surprised when I say that arguably the biggest news this week came from Rockstar who finally announced the game everyone was expecting to see at E3…but didn’t. That’s right, Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally and officially real. The bad part? It’s not arriving until Fall 2017. To help or hurt the wait is the first official trailer. Enjoy!
Outside of Red Dead, not much could topple news that big, right? Well, Nintendo threw a monkey wrench into those plans by finally revealing the Nintendo NX, now known as Nintendo Switch. While there’s still a number of linger questions, at the very least, the debut trailer showed off the system and what it so special about it.
I’ve also got new videos for Prey, Titanfall 2, Dishonored 2 and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!
The full list of videos await you after the jump…
Destiny is a game about many things: exploration, reclaiming lost knowledge, uncovering the secrets of the Darkness, oh and it’s about looking as cool as possible while doing all that. I play as a Hunter, mostly for their class abilities but also for their cool factor. Titans have their marks and Warlocks have their bonds, but nothing says “space-magic superhero” like an awesome cape! Not all Hunter cloaks are created equal though. Some are cool, some are…interesting, and then there are some that are just downright excellent. And of those most excellent of cloaks, the following are definitely the best! Destiny’s “Rise of Iron” expansion is finally out and with it comes new things to do and new gear to acquire! I’ve already played through the story and am looking forward to the new “Wrath of the Machine” raid, but what I’ve got my eye on are all the really flashy items to be awarded in the “Trials of Osiris” pvp mode. The thing is, if you want to get anything out of the trials, you gotta win first. Continue reading Working to be Competitive
As I read through my revisited post last week, a thought kept popping into my mind: “Destiny really has changed after all.” Just about everything in my old post is dated now. Vanguard marks, Crucible marks, Cryptarch woes, and even referring to the Vault of Glass as “the Raid” as if it were the only one. The game has changed so much that I don’t think much of anything I talked about even applies anymore; neither nor even in my own perception of the game. Honestly, it seems as though I, as a player, have been growing right alongside Destiny. Continue reading Growth in the Game
This week I was planning on talking about what’s kept me playing Destiny for almost 2 years now, but with Rise of Iron looming over the horizon, I though it would be fun to first look back at how I saw the game back when it was still new in 2014. It’s been a long time since Destiny first launched and a lot’s changed, so lets have ourselves a little reminder of where we started before looking further at how far we’ve come!
