Saturday Video Round Up: August 30 – September 5

The following post was submitted by Gamer Crash. See more trailers and news at GamerCrash.com!

Hey, it’s PAX Prime weekend! For those of you attending, have a great time. This also means that it’s time for another Round Up, bringing you the best trailers and gameplay from the past week. With September upon us, the ushering in of another fall/holiday release schedule is here. That also means the trailers are falling like water. So lets get to it, then!

I’ll make the argument that there isn’t a cuter game coming out in 2015 than Yoshi’s Woolly World. I mean, it’s Yoshi in a world completely made of yarn. Come on, what’s not to love?! The visual style is simply outstanding and as we’re still well over a month away, the trailer below will have to tide you over for now.

If you’re curious to see how Halo 5: Guardians begins, Microsoft gave you a nice sneak peak this week as the opening cinematic released. The game is still a month and a half away from retail but if you need a Halo fix, come watch the impressive opening moments with Spartan Locke and Fireteam Osiris.

I’ve also got new videos for Forza Motorsport 6, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Mad Max and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…

Saturday Video Round Up: August 16 – 22

The following post was submitted by Gamer Crash. See more trailers and news at GamerCrash.com!

With a less than packed week last time, the Round Up this week has returned to form. As the fall rush of games quickly approaches, so to has the amount of trailers and videos for fans to enjoy. I’ve managed to capture the best ones from the week that was and here’s a small taste of what awaits you below.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition hits store shelves and the Xbox Live Marketplace next week and to celebrate, The Coalition released a pretty snazzy launch trailer. Considering the Ultimate Edition is a remastered version of the first game, what better way to pay homage then to remaster the epic Mad World classic trailer? Come take a look at the new visuals and relive the nostalgia you didn’t know you had!

Year One Destiny fans finally got a look at the VIP rewards Bungie has been promoting since E3. Want to see the shader, sparrow bike, and emotes you’ll be getting on September 15? The trailer is waiting for you below.

I’ve also got new videos for Mad Max, Tales from the Borderlands, Splatoon and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…

Saturday Video Round Up: Super Gamescom 2015 Edition

The following post was submitted by Gamer Crash. See more trailers and news at GamerCrash.com!

This week was all about Gamescom and as the dedicated Saturday Video Round Up fan that you are, I’m sure you know what that means. More Videos! It’s because of that fact that I really don’t know where to start. If there’s a game you’re excited for later this year or even into next, I more than likely have a trailer for it. This week is jam packed with video content, so lets dive in! Here’s a small taste.

After a slight hiatus and disappearance at E3 this year, Quantum Break came back in a big way, revealing the star studded talent in the game and also a nice graphical upgrade. If you want to see how this time bending action game is shaping up, there’s a brand new trailer for your viewing pleasure below.

Even though I couldn’t get into the first game, I still find the Mirror’s Edge series beautiful. With the next entry in the series, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, set to hit stores next year, the same remains true. Catalyst looks gorgeous and very fluid as the main character Faith weaves in and out using parkour moves to escape some pretty dangerous situations. The GamesCom demo awaits you below the jump.

I’ve also got new videos for Street Fighter V, Heroes of the Storm, Halo 5: Guardians and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…

Setting Paths and Changing Outcomes in RPGs

Recently, a number of our posts here have focused, in ways directly or indirectly, on challenges associated with being adult gamers. As much as we might not like to admit it, as we grow older, our gaming habits change, sometimes by choice, often by necessity. Demanding jobs, growing families, and surmounting financial concerns all eat away at free time that we may have once had to devote to games. In my gaming life, the requirements of the real world have especially impacted one of my gaming habits in particular, that of playing through a single game with multiple characters and having each follow a distinct path.

What Next Gen Looks Like

Image captured by Hatm0nster

The “next-generation” of gaming has been here for about a year now, which I suppose makes it “current gen” now. Aside from a few games that have been set to run at 60fps, it really hasn’t felt the monumental arrival of the Next Generation of Gaming that we thought it was going to be has it? Then again, what exactly were we expecting the next generation of gaming to look like anyway?  It would have better graphics of course, and better frame rates but I always felt like there was going to be more to it…somehow. I wasn’t sure what exactly was going to make the next gen feel different, but with the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition I think I’m finally getting an idea.

Dragon Age: Inquisition has a tie-in site called DragonAgeKeep.com, which enables users to choose set up their own custom world state to bring into the game. It’s similar to the motion comic that accompanied the PS3 version of Mass Effect 3, which allowed players who didn’t have save data from the previous games to still make the important choices. What really makes the Dragon Age Keep a step beyond the likes of that motion comic is just how much it allows you do with the world states you save. Not only can you make decisions and port them to your game, but you make multiple states and save favorites, and even share them out among your friends. They’re features that save states have enabled on PCs (consoles if you have the right tools and knowhow) for several years now, but this is the first time we’re seeing this kind of functionality made officially part of a game. It’s not an incredibly dramatic feature but I’m thinking it’s a forerunner to the kinds of features we can expect to see from future games on Xbox One and PS4. I don’t know if this is available to the last generation versions also, but even if it is I’d still call it a next generation feature simply because we haven’t really seen its like before.

Better graphics and frame rates are nice, but now that I’ve seen it I realize that is this kind of expanded functionality that’s going to come to define this new generation of games more than will ever be able to.

What do you think sets this next generation apart from that which came before? Where should they go from here?

Do You Prepare for Game Sequels?

With the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition on the horizon, I’ve been considering if I want to prepare for it or not. By “prepare” I mean play through Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II. I had a great time with DA:O, and less fun with DAII, but recently I’ve found myself wanting to play these games again. I want to go into Inquisition mostly sight unseen, so I’ve been avoiding a good deal of its news and rumors. I don’t know that there’s any good reason to play through the previous games – your playable characters don’t carry through the games like they do in, say Mass Effect. But I wouldn’t mind reacquainting myself with the world of Dragon Age before the third game.
