Saturday Video Round Up: April 5 – 11

The following post was submitted by GamerCrash. See more trailers and news at GamerCrash.com

Welcome to the weekend folks! Your prize is an all new Video Round Up, capturing the best gameplay and trailers from the week that was. So crank that volume and sit back. Here’s just a small sample of what’s below the break.

The big news this week came from Square Enix and Eidos Montreal as they revealed the next entry in the Deus Ex franchise after a leak initially outed the project. Known as Deus Ex Mankind Divided, the game picks up after the events started in Human Revolution. Adam Jensen is back in the lead role and the game has never looked better. Go watch the trailer.

If Adam Jensen isn’t enough for you this week, maybe CD Projekt RED has something more your speed? The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is back this week with a brand new five minute gameplay trailer showing off everything players can do once the game hits stores in May. Spoiler: The game is absolutely MASSIVE. Prepare to lose many hours of your life to this game.

I’ve also got new videos for Mario Kart 8, Mortal Kombat X, Little Devil Inside and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…

Battlefield Hardline Impressions – Worth An Investigation

Images from EA’s Battlefield: Hardline promotional site

Battlefield Hardline feels like an impostor.

Now, hold on a minute here. Before you grab the pitchforks, let me explain.

When I think about the franchise ‘Battlefield’ and what it represents to me, I immediately think of massive maps, huge vehicles storming the playing field, and utilizing destruction to help me better get at my enemies. Hardline, oddly enough, has none of that. It’s maps are smaller in size, vehicles are reduced to more civilian types like cars, dirtbikes, and vans, and from what I’ve experienced, the destruction element that the series is known for is massively reduced. Sure you can break fences, but punching holes in the side of a building with a grenade launcher is just about a no-no with this one.

So why is this a Battlefield game if it’s missing some of the core elements that make other Battlefield games what they are? We can certainly speculate that EA tagged the game in order to help it sell and get noticed by first person shooter fans rather than try to market a completely new IP. That just makes sense.

While much of this may seem like a negative, surprisingly it’s not.

Six Favorite Gaming Secrets…Or Maybe Five?

All month long, United We Game is celebrating secrets, hoaxes, and trickery in games with a new writing challenge. Click here for the details and join in the fun!

I’m not much of an artist when it comes to discovering secrets in games. While it seems that some players are imbued with a magical honing beacon that guides them towards easter egg after easter egg, for me, the act of finding secrets has mostly been the equivalent of blindly stumbling around in the dark hoping that I don’t impale myself on something sharp. I don’t necessarily go searching for secrets in games, so happening upon a secret something-or-other is a pretty special feat. Over the years I’ve run into a fair share of extraordinary moments where I feel like Indiana Jones grabbing that golden idol. And the giant rolling boulder of Internet spoilers isn’t enough to make me feel any less superior at those times when I discover something I hadn’t before. Here’s a rundown of some six memorable secrets I’ve come across in the games I’ve played.

My Favorite (April) Fools

April Fool’s Day may have already come and gone, but that’s not going to stop me from writing a post for this rather silly holiday, and it’s not going to stop me from asking a question. Who is your favorite video game fool? You know, an idiotic character that you can’t help but love. The character I have in mind is the bumbling, idiotic, and suspiciously muscular fake superhero, Captain Copernicus Leslie Qwark from the Ratchet and Clank series. His birthday, as stated in the 2010 calendar, is April Fool’s Day, making this a great month to commemorate this lovable fool.

To be honest, I wasn’t a fan of the guy at first because he actually played a more villainous role in the first two games from the original trilogy on the PlayStation 2, and I still firmly believe that Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal is the best game of the series, partly because it is the game where Qwark turned hero again. Nevertheless, he is a pretty cruddy hero. Qwark may not be lacking in muscles, but he is sorely missing anything and everything related to, well, intelligence, or humility, or really any desire to risk himself for others. And so it is no surprise that Ratchet doesn’t have the fondest feelings for him, when Qwark takes credit for victories he played no part in or runs away from danger, even going so far as to fake his own death. Gaming’s Best Foolery: Secrets and Hoaxes

We swear we’re not fooling around with a new community writing challenge, for it is with a little April Foolery in mind that we offer up a new topic this month about secrets, hoaxes, and general (yet fun) trickery in games!

It’s no secret that developers have been hiding some fun and frustrating secrets in games for decades, from warp whistles (Super Mario 3), to Reptile (Mortal Kombat), to the Scarab gun (Halo 2), and finding Mew (Pokemon) to name just a few. And it seems that for every handful of known secrets, no matter how difficult they are to find, there are a few that remain unknown or questionable in their legitimacy. With the rise of gaming secrets and easter eggs has also come the rise of gaming hoaxes. Some end up in the form of rumors – remember the ones about how you could supposedly keep Aerith alive in Final Fantasy VII? While others become full-blown ruses that lead players on wild goose chases, such as the one about being able to obtain the actual triforce in the The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

As crazy as gaming secrets and hoaxes can be, they pepper landscape of video games with plenty of intrigue and have become “a way of life” in gaming, so to speak. With this months writing challenge, we invite you to write about your favorite or least favorite gaming secrets, tricks, and hoaxes. Are there any secrets you never found but want to one day? Are there any gaming hoaxes that you wish had been true? What’s the hardest easter egg you’ve ever found or longest you’ve ever spent trying to find a secret something-or-other? Maybe make up your own hoax or secret and see if the community can call you out on it (all in good fun, of course).

We’ll be sharing any posts we catch across our social media sites — tag your post with #UnitedWeGame or #UWG so we’ll be sure to see it. However you choose to run with this topic, have fun with it and spread the word! The challenge runs through Friday, May 1st, so there’s plenty of time to come up with something. The more posts there are, the more we’ll share. And check back here for posts of our own on gaming secrets and hoaxes!
