The Spooky-Silly Poetry Contest is now officially underway! Our first entry comes from C.T. Murphy of Murf Versus! If you aren’t familiar with Murf Versus, it’s a blog dedicated to musings regarding everything from books, to tv, to games, and has also played host to a few blogger community events such as Voluntine’s Day. So take a moment and check it out; it’ll definitely be worth your time.

And now without out further rambling, it is our pleasure to present the first entry: “The Ocean House Hotel Song”

I wait …

Still waiting …

Hmph. ‘Patience is a virtue’, that’s what the Carpenter said.

He carved me out as he sliced up his bread.

He’s dead and so is everyone else in this hotel.

Heaven didn’t want us nor did Hell.

Haunted halls.

Haunted halls.

I continue to wait …

I shouldn’t even be here or thinking these thoughts,

If the Carpenter can hear me then I hope he rots.

I’m just a chair that he carved out of wood,

in this place, I sit and wait with my possessed brood.

Imagine it.

Imagine it.

And we wait …

the clock strikes midnight

… AND THEN

THE DOOR OPENS GENTLY, WHAT A SURPRISE

ITS SOME SORT OF VAMPIRE WITH TWO SORT OF EYES

WE GET INTO POSITION, WE TAKE OUR PLACE

WE HAVE TO BE QUIET IF WE WANT SEE THAT LOOK ON HIS FACE

HE STARTS TO SNEAK BY ME, ALARMED YOU CAN TELL

I JUMP UP AT HIM, HIS FACE TURNS FRAIL

NO ONE EXPECTS A CHAIR TO SPRING TO LIFE

HE STABS AT MY WILDLY WITH THE TIP OF A KNIFE

THE CLOSER HE GETS TO HIS QUEST’S END

THE MORE WE PUT UPON HIM, THE MORE FURNITURE WE SEND

THIS HOTEL DANCES MADLY IN THE SANTA MONICA NIGHT

THIS VAMPIRE IS SUCCESSFUL BUT DAMN WHAT A FRIGHT

And then I sit back down.

Big thanks go out to C.T. Murphy for this excellent song! If you liked it, be sure to check out Murf Versus and come back here at the end of the month to cast your vote to crown this the winner!
If you want to see more spooky silliness, be sure to stop back and see the rest of the entries!

  1. Very interesting poem. Good rhymes, but what I liked most of all were the shorter parts throughout, because it was different and made for some good pauses in the poem. Anyway, yep, good poem.
