What Are They Afraid Of?

“Do video game publishers know something that we don’t?” This question has been buzzing around my head ever since I learned about Square-Enix’s plan to retroactively make the upcoming Hitman game into an episodic “experience.” At first I thought it was just another money-grubbing move by a major publisher, but then I watched January 28th’s episode of Jim Sterling’s “The Jimquisition“. In Sterling states that, according his sources, Square Enix and some other major publishers entered this current generation with no faith in the console market. They were convinced that games released on consoles were all going to perform poorly, and that microtransactions, DLC, and the PC market in general were going to be the future. Now regardless of how you may personally feel about Mr. Sterling or the news he reports, certain publishers’ actions in the recent past begin to make sense if this does indeed prove to be true. After all, why go through all that trouble and bad press if you didn’t think you had something to gain? Still, one has to wonder where they got the idea that consoles were a bad market in the first place. Continue reading What Are They Afraid Of?

Stay Tuned for the Next Exciting Episode!

It may be a new year, but it seems that AAA publishers are just as determined as ever to show the depth of their contempt for their paying customers. Okay, maybe that’s a bit harsh but after everything we’ve seen from the likes of Konami, Activision, and Square Enix last year, one might have cause to feel like there’s a little bit more going on here than companies simply trying to stay profitable. This time however, my focus is entirely on Square Enix (hereafter referred to as “Square”) and their distressing interest in making their games into “truly episodic AAA [gaming] experience[s]”. Saturday Video Round Up: January 17 – 23

The following post was submitted by Gamer Crash. See more trailers and news at GamerCrash.com!

Hope you all enjoyed the mega sized Round Up last week and for those of you who missed it (WHAT?!?!), you can check it out right here.

We’re back to the normal edition of the Round Up this week, bringing you the best gameplay videos and official trailers from the past week. There’s a lot of stuff to get to, so here’s just a small taste of what’s waiting for you below the jump. Enjoy!

Ubisoft’s next Far Cry game is a few weeks away and to help get people excited, they released a pair of videos. The first helps introduce some of the major characters players will interact with during their time with Far Cry Primal and if this game stays true to the past couple of entries, there should be plenty of weird and crazy moments. The second is a developer diary that goes into how the language used in the game came to be and further inspired the characters within the title. It’s fairly interesting stuff.

To the surprise of probably no one, Warner Bros and Netherrealm Studios revealed Mortal Kombat XL, essentially the Game of the Year edition of Mortal Kombat, which collects every piece of DLC released and upcoming and putting it all into one package. Surprisingly, this version of the game including Kombat Pack 2 won’t be arriving on PC, as it seems support for that platform has been discontinued. Sorry to all those affected.

I’ve also got new videos for Darkest Dungeon, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, Battleborn and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers! It’s a stuffed Round Up this week folks, so enjoy! We’ll see you in 2016 everyone!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…
