With the release of Nintendo’s Switch now less than a month away, I’ve been spending an increasing amount of time looking up what kind of games we’ll have to look forward to. As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t plan on buying the Switch at launch, but a Duck can still dream, right? And for all of those out there who will be proud Switch-owners in the near future, here’s a little assistance in the form of three intriguing, but lesser-known, Switch releases. That means no Zelda, Mario, or Yooka-Laylee!
I Am Setsuna: Okay, so this game has actually been available on other consoles since 2016, so it’s not really an upcoming game. But it has never been on a Nintendo console before and is scheduled to be released the same day as the Switch, so it will be new for you lucky Switch-users out there. This RPG immediately caught my attention for its beautiful, unique graphics and a style that harkens back to the PS1 age of RPGs. It’s funny because I didn’t grow up playing classic RPGs, and yet they still make me feel all nostalgic. This is definitely a game I’d like to try.

Rime: Apparently I’m a sucker for games with unique visuals because Rime is another game that I would love to get my little webbed feet on. Or something like that. This adventure game finds a young boy on a strange island, and, well, I don’t totally know what it’s about, but it looks really interesting. Not only are the environments really beautiful, but the island appears to be a rather magical and creative place. You need only wait until May of this year to try this game for yourselves.

Snake Pass: I’ll admit, this is a rather odd one, but if I’m covering unique games, then this certainly makes the list. I originally heard about this game thanks to Youtuber VTNVIVI, who often has a knack for covering interesting games, particularly unique platformers. Snake Pass is a rather bizarre game where the player controls a snake who can slither all around obstacles, possibly with or without the help of a hummingbird companion. It’s kind of like a platformer, but the mechanics are totally different because of a snake’s, well, lack of limbs of any kind. If you want a different take on the classic platformer, you should be able to check this game out in early 2017.

That’s just my personal list, but I’m sure there are plenty more interesting games out there. Do you have any unique Switch titles you’re looking forward to? Please let us know in the comments!

Snake Pass looks really cool. Definitely going to keep an eye on that one now.

It does indeed look pretty interesting. I’m always on the look-out for unique platformers, so this is something I’d certainly like to try in the future.
