Three Surprising Weeks with Breath of the Wild

It’s been just over three weeks since I started playing Breath of the Wild, and it would be quite impossible to even make a guess as to how many hours I have dedicated to this game thus far.  In that time, while I have managed to make some actual progress in the game’s story, the majority of my time has been spent exploring, and I have come to appreciate the sheer number of surprises Breath of the Wild has to offer.  Of course, if you don’t want these surprises to be spoiled, you may want to look away…. The Duck’s First Week with Breath of the Wild

Ever since the release of Breath of the Wild, I have hardly had time for anything else.  The game has been such an addicting and crazy experience, filled with adventure and surprises around every turn.  And now that just over a week has passed since its release, I thought I’d chronicle my progress up to this point.  Warning: there may be spoilers ahead, even if the game’s plot hasn’t exactly been my focus as of late.  If you wish to uncover the secrets of Hyrule completely on your own, then you may want to tread with caution, even if I’ll try to keep the spoilers light.

During last week’s post, I summarized my early impressions of the game, and it is today that the real adventure begins.  Once you complete the Great Plateau, you are given far more freedom to explore, as you have finally obtained the trusty paraglider that not only enables you to glide down from the plateau’s great heights, but makes getting around immensely easier.  Nevertheless, I was still given a task.  Go see Impa in Kakariko Village.  (Oh, so that’s how you say the name of that place.  Thanks, voice acting.)  Well, at this point, I had every intention of doing anything but what I was told to do.  Well aware that this game contained an ocean based on what I had seen in the trailer, I looked about for palm trees in the distance, then headed off in that direction once they had been spotted. Getting to Know Breath of the Wild

Breath of the Wild is here!  It’s finally here, the super different, super massive Zelda game we have all been waiting for!  I reserved the game (the Wii U version) at my local game store the day it was released, as I worried the insane hype over not only the game itself, but the Switch, would make obtaining a copy rather difficult.  I can’t say whether or not such measures were absolutely necessary, but boy, was I not taking any chances.  (I do know that by the time I arrived at the store, there was a sign on the door saying they had sold out of Switch consoles.)  I started playing the game that evening, and it’s pretty much all I did over the weekend.

While I plan to write more about my experiences with this game as my time with it grows, right now, I just want to focus on my early impressions, so if you’re worried about spoilers, this post should be pretty safe, on the most part.  I can’t promise the same for later posts.  But we’ll see. Saturday Video Round Up: February 26 – March 4

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the weekend and an all new edition of the Saturday Video Round Up. As usual, I’ve gather up the best video game trailers and gameplay from around the industry this past week and put them all in a handy dandy post for your viewing pleasure. Let’s get to it, shall we?

After a leak last week, WB and Monolith officially confirmed that Middle-earth: Shadow of War is indeed real. Picking up where the first game left off, players jump back into the armor of fallen ranger Talion and his spirit elf Celebrimbor as they create a new ring of power and prepare to go toe to toe with Sauron. With a newly updated and expanded Nemesis System, I am ready to return to the land of Mordor.

With the Nintendo Switch now out in the wild, there’s also a handful of launch videos for the new console watching for your views as well.

I’ve also got new videos for Nier: Automata, Injustice 2, Mass Effect Andromeda and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…

Let’s Be Fair About: Breath of the Wild DLC

It’s happening.  Nintendo is releasing DLC with one of its games.  Whether or not this will become commonplace is yet to be seen, but it has been officially announced that Breath of the Wild will have the dreaded and reviled…downloadable content.  (Cue clichéd violin-horror music here.)  By now, we’re all probably familiar with this practice and the conflicting opinions people have about it.  But today, I’m not going to get into a peeved rant about how I feel about this controversial subject.  No, in this post, we’re going to have a fair and calm discussion of Breath of the Wild’s recently-announced DLC, and DLC in general. Saturday Video Round Up: Feb 19 – 25

Hey, look! Saturday is here and that means the Round Up is here to (hopefully) entertain and delight you. For those new here, the Video Round Up collects the best trailers and gameplay videos from the past week and puts them all here for your viewing pleasure. There’s a lot to get to this week, so here’s just a small sampling of what is waiting for you after the jump.

It was a big week for BioWare as a number of Mass Effect Andromeda videos came out and for myself, increasing the hype meter considerably. The first video shows off more single player gameplay, along with how the upgrade and skill tree process works this time around. A second video introduces us the Lexi T’Perro, the chief medic and the first person players will meet. Lastly, a third video which dropped on Friday has security chief, Liam Costa, discussing weapon training.

Sony’s first major AAA title for 2017 Horizon Zero Dawn finally launches next week and a handful of new trailers also arrived showing off more of the gorgeous open world, combat, and exploration players will be taking part in.

I’ve also got new videos for Nier: Automata, Injustice 2, Nintendo Switch and so much more after the break, so come check out this week’s batch of trailers!

The full list of videos await you after the jump…
