I am now officially halfway through the Sly Cooper series! I recently completed Sly 2: Band of Thieves and have gotten 100% both in the game itself and in collecting all of its lovely trophies. If only these were real trophies, I’d have quite the collection by now. Since my last update, I completed both episodes in the very spooky Prague, after which I headed to the chilly wilderness of Canada to stop the fiendish buffalo Jean Bison (I never get bored of saying his name) from chopping down the forests. Last of all, I completed the final chapter on the parrot Arpeggio’s blimp and defeated the final boss. Done and done. I had a really great time playing this game, and I was so happy to find that it was much longer than the original, which ended just when I was really getting into it. And now that I’ve seen everything there is to see in Sly 2, it is time for my most positive and most negative thoughts about the game. Newcomer Alert: Halfway Through Sly 2: Band of Thieves
Well, I’m now 49% through Sly 2: Band of Thieves and have recently started chapter 5. I explored a nightclub in Paris and defeated its owner, Dimitri the iguana (since when are iguanas purple?), the first member of the Klaww Gang (which I’m certain bears no relation to Klaww from Jak 1…). I braved the jungles of India to stop the tiger Rajan. And I visited a very spooky location in Prague, the specifics of which I won’t reveal, as I don’t want to spoil any bit of the story. Though, the events that took place at the end of episode 3 didn’t surprise me one bit, even though I’m pretty sure it was meant to be a plot twist. I actually more or less saw it coming since one of the very first cut scenes of the game. But, once again, if you played the game, you’ll know what I mean, and if not, I don’t want to spoil a thing for anyone who has yet to play these games. Newcomer Alert: Initial Thoughts on Sly 2: Band of Thieves
Now that I’ve completed the very first Sly Cooper game, I can safely say the series is starting to grow on me, and it was with much excitement that I began the second game in the original trilogy, Sly 2: Band of Thieves. I am currently an hour into the game, and though that may not seem like much time to form any real opinion of it, I already have some initial thoughts to share with you guys so far.
I noticed first off that the graphics have improved, and though the controls seem to be largely the same, you can no longer look around using one of the left trigger buttons. While it is possible this has been moved to the R3 button, clicking an analog stick like a button has never felt like a natural thing to do, so I have yet not tried to confirm this. I do it when I’m forced, but that’s it. I was pleasantly surprised to see Sly’s pals also playing a more active role in the game so far, as in the first game, you only received advice from Bentley from afar from time to time, and Murray sometimes appeared in minigames. I was also very surprised at how Murray’s personality seems very…different from what it used to be. There will probably be more thoughts on that later. Carmelita’s voice acting also seems to have more feeling than it used to, as well. Continue reading Newcomer Alert: Initial Thoughts on Sly 2: Band of Thieves
