Unforgettable: Murray’s Geisha Dance from Sly 4

I haven’t done one of these posts in quite a while.  By now, I’ve played a lot of video games, and let me tell you, sometimes it feels like I’ve seen it all.  As a result, it is rare for something to happen in a game that really catches my attention, that’s so different or unique or downright brilliant that you just know you won’t be able to forget it for years to come.  But it certainly happens, and this time it happened in the fourth Sly Cooper game, Thieves in Time.

As of writing this post, I was still only about halfway through the game.  Nevertheless, there have already been a lot of humorous moments, leading me to quickly gain a fair bit of respect for the new creator of the series, Sanzaru, whose sense of humor might just be even quirkier than Sucker Punch, the wonderful people who made the original Sly trilogy.  Few games make me laugh out loud like this one does (and no, I simply refuse to ever shorten that to LOL…), but there is one thing that was so great, I immediately knew it required an Unforgettable post.

To set the stage, the first location the Cooper Gang visits in this particular game is Japan, and one of their methods for gaining information from the level’s villain, El Jefe, is to, well, dress Murray up as a geisha.  When this costume is first procured, I was treated to a very unexpected minigame where Murray dances on stage in his stolen kimono.  I kind of feel like nothing else needs to be said here.  A male hippo…in a kimono…disguised as a geisha…dancing.

Interested?  I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t be.  This was both hilarious and shocking, plus I think Murray makes a pretty adorable geisha.  But, what good does this do anyone just talking about it?  Why don’t you watch it for yourself….

  1. This was definitely the biggest “wut?” moment of the entire series, but somehow also something I had no problem seeing Murray doing. It was crazy, but still a very Murray thing to do. Can’t wait for the next game!

    1. This was one of my favorite things in the series, I think, and I immediately had to watch it on Youtube afterward, as it’s hard to fully appreciate Murray’s dance while you’re focusing on what buttons to press. I really hope they make another Sly Cooper game, and if they do, they must include something like this again. It was too amusing!
