Ever since the release of Breath of the Wild, I have hardly had time for anything else. The game has been such an addicting and crazy experience, filled with adventure and surprises around every turn. And now that just over a week has passed since its release, I thought I’d chronicle my progress up to this point. Warning: there may be spoilers ahead, even if the game’s plot hasn’t exactly been my focus as of late. If you wish to uncover the secrets of Hyrule completely on your own, then you may want to tread with caution, even if I’ll try to keep the spoilers light.
During last week’s post, I summarized my early impressions of the game, and it is today that the real adventure begins. Once you complete the Great Plateau, you are given far more freedom to explore, as you have finally obtained the trusty paraglider that not only enables you to glide down from the plateau’s great heights, but makes getting around immensely easier. Nevertheless, I was still given a task. Go see Impa in Kakariko Village. (Oh, so that’s how you say the name of that place. Thanks, voice acting.) Well, at this point, I had every intention of doing anything but what I was told to do. Well aware that this game contained an ocean based on what I had seen in the trailer, I looked about for palm trees in the distance, then headed off in that direction once they had been spotted. Breath of the Wild is here! It’s finally here, the super different, super massive Zelda game we have all been waiting for! I reserved the game (the Wii U version) at my local game store the day it was released, as I worried the insane hype over not only the game itself, but the Switch, would make obtaining a copy rather difficult. I can’t say whether or not such measures were absolutely necessary, but boy, was I not taking any chances. (I do know that by the time I arrived at the store, there was a sign on the door saying they had sold out of Switch consoles.) I started playing the game that evening, and it’s pretty much all I did over the weekend.
While I plan to write more about my experiences with this game as my time with it grows, right now, I just want to focus on my early impressions, so if you’re worried about spoilers, this post should be pretty safe, on the most part. I can’t promise the same for later posts. But we’ll see. Continue reading Getting to Know Breath of the Wild
It’s happening. Nintendo is releasing DLC with one of its games. Whether or not this will become commonplace is yet to be seen, but it has been officially announced that Breath of the Wild will have the dreaded and reviled…downloadable content. (Cue clichéd violin-horror music here.) By now, we’re all probably familiar with this practice and the conflicting opinions people have about it. But today, I’m not going to get into a peeved rant about how I feel about this controversial subject. No, in this post, we’re going to have a fair and calm discussion of Breath of the Wild’s recently-announced DLC, and DLC in general. Continue reading Let’s Be Fair About: Breath of the Wild DLC
