It Seems Nier: Automata has Some Mysteries to Solve

Nier: Automata is already out next month here in the US. That may be amazingly fast considering just how recently it broke into the wider gaming consciousness, but it’s definitely not unwelcome. In fact, it would be quite nice if more games started up their hype trains a few months before release rather than the now standard 2-3 years. Anyway, the game is coming out soon and thus we have a brand new trailer to to keep it stuck in our brains for awhile longer. You can see it here after the jump.

While not showing off all that much more gameplay, this trailer does introduce us to a little bit more of the world and its inhabitants. On the gameplay side, it looks like players will be allowed a bit more freedom to explore than in the demo. The drone unit also appears to have at least one more function as a sort of jump/gliding-assist tool. Additionally, it appears that there will be plenty of boss or boss-level enemies to confront and defeat. All of this would definitely be welcome if there’s enough variety to keep it feeling fresh throughout.

On the story side, it appears that 2B and 9S will either already be or will soon find themselves in dire straits once the game’s story gets going. These machine wars have been going on for a very long time now and if the world and characters shown in this trailer are any indication, everything (both sides included) has been devastated by the conflict. The situation of our protagonists is still unclear. Maybe they go rogue at some point during the story or maybe they’re among the last of their kind, carrying out futile order after futile order. Either way, there’s more going on here than a simple war.

Hopefully, Nier: Automata will be good enough to make it worth finding out.

What’s your take on this trailer? Think you’ll be picking this one up?
