I try very hard to figure the game out on my own, but old games are so darn vague, I never know what I should be doing half the time.

One day, when I’m a millionaire, I’ll have all the time in the world to figure games out myself again. Except when it’s too hard, of course.

You have to cheat in Pokemon, it’s too fun.

I WISH I had the time nowadays to amble through a game at my leisure, taking days to solve puzzles and weeks to find every last little secret. But those days are long gone. I try very hard to keep my cheating at bay — and about the only way I can do it is to lock my phone away while I’m playing! Otherwise, I tend to keep it nearby and loaded up with a walkthrough just in case I hit a terrible spot. I’ll admit that I’m skimming a walkthrough as I’m trying to find all the artifacts in Metroid Prime. Though they really aren’t ideal, as you pointed out, because of all the spoilers. Even just looking up very specific hints can reveal spoilers. The Internet is just one big spoiler, really.

I wasn’t much for outright cheating in the past. I’d use guides sure, but mostly for finding out obscure locations of stuff for 100% completions and such. Besides with guides, the knowledge eventually becomes your own in a way. (I now have Luigi’s Mansion memorized thanks to a guide and perhaps a few too many playthroughs).

At any rate, the big exception to this was Pokemon (red, gold, ruby, it didn’t matter!), I just did not have the patience to do it the right way. I played through pokemon countless times in my grade school days, but I think I only ever managed a couple of legit playthroughs up to the elite 4. Every other time was frought with gamesharking of all kinds. Infinite masterballs, infinite money, uncatchable pokemon. You name it! I even went so far as to actually catch MissingNo (which you should NEVER do) because the thought having a glitch for a usable monster just sounded awesome!

Even nowadays I still can’t quite keep myself from it. It’s irresistable, especially now that there are EVs and IVs to think about. I still have a completely legit team that I worked hard to train of course, an it alwasy feels great to have it perform well against my friends (better than a cheat team ever would). Still, that doesn’t mean I don’t have a box of perfect iv or shiny Rayquayza’s stashed somewhere… ;)
