I guess it the “being there” factor, like you are actually in the scary moment and not just watching it happen. I have managed to progress a little past the whole demons-rising point in the game, but not much farther. I just lock up in fear and would much rather hide than shoot things.

And I liked the ending. Sometimes our greatest obstacle is fear, which reminds me of the first time I faced the Flood in Halo and hid in a hallway, too terrified to continue on. Based on this poem, I think I’d have the same response to Doom 3.

And it’s not that it was particularly compelling, but it was jarring (in a good way) to see a sequence like that in a movie. The Doom movie itself was boring, unnecessary, and completely out of whack with the game’s actual story. Typical, as far as game-to-movie translations go.
