I can’t play a boring game, even if the story is good. I, personally, find “KH: Chain of Memories” to be a bother to play, but I like the story and characters, so I’ll just read the manga or watch the cut scenes on Youtube. A video game is just that, a game, and if we don’t have fun playing it, then it can be hard to even get to those good cut scenes in the first place.

I get quite annoyed when games look choppy or slow down, and glitches in the graphics can be a problem, too. Gameplay is more important to me than characters and story, though it is the games with good gameplay AND good characters and story that are my favorite games of all time. Fun games can’t compete with a fun game with a great story and characters.

As for me, gameplay overrules every other element. I’ll tolerate a bad story (or no story) if the game plays well. Story and characters are the second most important to me, since not even the most engaging story will endear me to a game with garbage gameplay.

It can be hard to play the game when every character speaks like a messed-up robot. Unless they are, in fact, supposed to be messed-up robots.

I tend to forget about the music as well as it some how merges with the visual aspect but then that’s also unfair to they guys who worked so hard to get the sound and music right.
For my reviews, the game-play needs to be solid, frame rate is a big factor to me, story and characters have to develop or at least be interesting and captivating the whole way through. graphics and visuals don’t need to be perfect just needs to look good to me and no obvious flaws.

Some games like Batman: Arkham City have the “x-factor” because i always come back to it and i honestly don’t know why. It’s so good

When I decide on if a game is good or not, a good story and good characters is super important. Preferably both, as a game can have a great story, but boring characters, and just not do it for me. In the end, characters may be more important to me because they’ll make me come back to a game. Once I know the story, I know it, but do I want to play again and pay the characters a visit, or do I not care to even see them again, either? Of course, a game has to be fun, too. And when it comes to graphics, it depends on what the console is capable of. “FFVII” looks horrible, but it’s an old game, so what can you expect? I was, however, disappointed by “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” on the Wii. Yeah, the Wii doesn’t have super good graphics, but I’ve seen it do much better than that.

I also hate games that are buggy. Bad frame-rates and skipping music and voice acting. It really ruins the enjoyment of a game. So does bad graphics in a console capable of better and bad voice acting. Bad voice acting may be even worse. You can ignore the character’s ugly, little face, but if they sound horrible, it reminds you all the more that you’re playing a game and they’re not real. Games with good voice acting bring the characters to life, making such games so much better.
